"'Had a sweet time at the Open Mic Last night. The venue, The Slaughtered Lamb, was possibly the coolest open mic space I've ever seen. Even as just a drinking hole it still has a better vibe than anywhere else I've been in London. Welcoming atmosphere from the audience and people who took part. Saw 3 new noteably great acts."

ABOUT THE OPEN MIC

The Open Mic is an opportunity for anyone who plays any instrument or sings or writes original material to get up and perform in front of a audience. We have regular open mic performers, some of whom are experienced and established acts and also perform here as featured artists, and some of whom are new to the scene. For many, it's the first time they've performed outside of their bedroom and to an audience.

The open mic is open to performers of any style or genre, whether it be blues, folk, indie, jazz, soul, world, R'n'B, acapella, instrumental, electronic, electro or spoken word. The only criteria is that the material you perform is original.

We sometimes feature a peformance from a special guest artist from out of town during the open mic.

It's FREE ENTRY for all.

OPEN MIC LOCATION

The electroacoustic club OPEN MIC usually takes place on the first Thursday of every month (check listings), 7.30-11.30pm at THE SLAUGHTERED LAMB in the Farringdon/Clerkenwell area of central London. Check the listings for future dates. It's FREE to get in.

REGISTERING TO PLAY

It's free to all performers who register and play on the night. We're there from 6.30pm to open the doors and start taking names. It's always very busy so try to register by 7pm to be sure of a place. You can also contact us to book a slot in advance.

OPEN MIC TIMINGS

The open mic session starts at 7.30pm and each act gets 2 songs. The earlier you get there (or book in advance) the better the chance of playing. Running order is decided on the night, although acts who've booked in advance get priority. Things usually go on until 11.30pm, although the bar is open til later, so we can carry on if it's a busy one, which it usually is.

PA/BACKLINE/EQUIPMENT

We have all the necessary equipment (mics, stands, mixer, leads, soundman etc) so all you need to do is bring your instrument(s). There are no monitors, although the 3rd and 4th speakers on the back wall dothe job perfectly. There's also no house piano/keyboard but you can usually borrow a guitar from one of the other performers.
